Health Science Associates (HSA) of Los Alamitos, CA., has sold it’s Laboratory Division to EMSL Analytical, Inc., doing business as LA Testing, Inc. The acquisition includes a complete transfer of all lab equipment, instruments, supplies, lab facilities, accreditations / certifications and key laboratory personnel. HSA was conceived originally to specialize in the industrial hygiene/occupational health field. It continues to provide the highest degree of competence, experience and services available in this field today. However, it quickly became apparent that occupational health and occupational safety were inseparable issues in the workplace and that an integrated approach was essential. Therefore, HSA offers the full scope of occupational health and safety technical, training and advisory services consistent with CAL/OSHA and Federal OSHA requirements.

This business transaction has been both amicable and mutually advantageous to both companies. Jan Marie Bailey has rejoined the Health Science Associates team as Training Director, with more than 20 years of experience in Industrial Hygiene, including Asbestos, Lead and Mold, she brings a unique perspective to training, having worked for both contractors and consultants. Environmental Microbiology Services are led by Joel I. Berman, CIH, CSP, Vice President, who has become an industry leader in this field. Kathy S. Jones, CIH, CAC and Vice President has a 25 year background in Industrial Hygiene, and Environmental consulting and Laboratory Direction. She brings this eminent background to her leadership role at HSA in providing quality services to our clients. Considered to be a pioneer in the Industrial Hygiene industry, HSA's president, Howard B. Spielman, PE, CIH, CSP, REHS, has more than 30 years of experience performing IAQ, health and safety reviews.

The Los Alamitos laboratory, a fully AIHA Accredited laboratory which currently provides IH, Microbiology, Lead, and Asbestos Lab Services is located at Health Science Associates’ facility at 10771 Noel Street, Los Alamitos CA 90720 and will continue to serve Health Science Associates’ customer base. EMSL plans to move to a new facility location to accommodate anticipated growth and expansion of services that will require additional lab space in the near future.
